International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative Fifth Global Conference

PYEONGCHANG, REPUBLIC OF KOREA: The Fifth Global IPSI Conference will be held on 4–5 October to coincide with CBD COP12.

The Fifth International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) Global Conference (IPSI-5) will be held from 4 to 5 October 2014 in Pyeongchang, Republic of Korea. The conference will be held back-to-back with the Twelfth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP12).

The IPSI-5 conference consists of two main events: the Assembly and the Public Forum. The Assembly will be held in the afternoon of Saturday 4 October, and is primarily for information sharing and decisions regarding the future direction of IPSI, and is open to all IPSI members.

The Public Forum is open to the general public, and will be held in the morning on Sunday 5 October in Hall G, Room 3 of the Alpensia Convention Center. The Public Forum is an opportunity for non-members to learn about IPSI and its activities as well as a venue for discussion of various topics related to socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS), their revitalization and sustainable management. The theme of this year’s Public Forum is “Furthering action in production landscapes and seascapes for sustainable development”.

Other planned events related to IPSI include:

  • A CBD COP12 side event hosted by IPSI on Monday 6 October at the CEPA Fair venue, entitled “Contribution to the Aichi Biodiversity Targets from the ground up: Engaging diverse communities and perspectives through the Satoyama Initiative"
  • A side event hosted by UNU-IAS on Wednesday, 8 October, entitled “Mobilizing Resources for Mainstreaming Biodiversity into Production Landscapes and Seascapes"
  • A large number of other events hosted by or featuring IPSI members. A list of these can be found on the IPSI website.
