Sustainable Development Goals and Disaster Risk Reduction

  • DATE / TIME :
    2015•02•12    13:00 - 16:35
    Location :

The public workshop Sustainable Development Goals and Disaster Risk Reduction will be held on 12 February 2015 in Kobe, Japan.

This workshop will explore linkages between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), especially linkages between the post-2015 development agenda and the Hyogo Framework for Action, in order to develop policy recommendations for the forthcoming UN World Conference on DRR in Sendai. The event will also discuss how SDGs can help build safe, inclusive, resilient cities and human settlements, and promote better risk communication in Japan.

While the international community is accelerating its efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015, discussion on the post-2015 development agenda and the SDGs is gathering momentum. At the same time, the proposed SDGs emphasize the importance of cities and human settlements that are safe, inclusive, and resilient to disasters, and are in line with the forthcoming Hyogo Framework for Action, as well as holistic disaster risk management at all levels.

Simultaneous Japanese–English translation will be provided at this event.
