The 2016 meeting of the UNU-IAS Board was held in Tokyo on 27–28 October. Members of the Board discussed the progress of UNU-IAS and provided guidance for the institute’s future development.

As part of the meeting, students of the UNU-IAS postgraduate degree programmes presented master’s and doctoral research in the areas of natural capital and biodiversity, global change and resilience, and water. Members of the Board commended the students on the quality of their research, and provided comments and advice.

A public event was also held in conjunction with the meeting, on the topic A Sustainable Future for Africa. The event, organized as part of the UNU-IAS SDG Dialogue series, featured keynote speeches from two UNU-IAS Board members, Tanya Abrahamse (South African National Biodiversity Institute) and Maria Ivanova (University of Massachusetts Boston).
