Prof. Takashi Onishi is the President of Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT), president of the Science Council of Japan (SCJ), and a member of the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation.
He received a doctoral degree in Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1980, and served as a professor in the same university’s Department of Urban Engineering until 2013 when he became emeritus professor.
He is currently a guest professor (part-time) at the Graduate School of Media and Governance at Keio University’s Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC). His fields of study include city planning and regional planning, as well as social systems engineering and safety system. He also covers other subjects in his role as the president of the Science Council of Japan.
Prof. Onishi has been dedicating himself to significant global issues, including those relating to the Great East Japan Earthquake. In 2013, he was appointed as a member of the Science and Technical Advisory Group of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR).
