    About the UNU-IAS Internship Programme
The UNU-IAS Internship Programme aims to provide young scholars with an opportunity to learn more about the work of UNU-IAS and UNU, as well as gain hands-on experience at a think tank within the UN system. The internship programme also encourages young scholars to advance their own studies related to sustainability by contributing to the institute’s policy-relevant research projects.

    Work Assignments
The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the research activities of the UNU-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa/Kanazawa (OUIK) including policy and case analysis for local biodiversity conservation and sustainability in addition to development of a participatory biodiversity monitoring system and environmental education through the joint implementation of GIAHS, MAB, and other international designation systems with local and international partners. For more details on OUIK activities, please refer to http://ouik.unu.edu/en/about#activity.

OUIK also focuses on capacity building of practitioners and students by promoting mutual learning between local communities in Ishikawa Prefecture and their counterparts in developing countries. The selected candidate will be able to contribute to these activities, if interested.

Due to the nature of OUIK’s research activities involving Japanese local stakeholders, it is preferred that applicants have acquired at least a basic ability to communicate in Japanese.

    Duration and Expenses
The intern will be expected to work five days a week on a full-time basis (9:30–17:30) for a duration of three to six months.

Please note that this is an unpaid internship; UNU cannot provide financial assistance and cannot assist with travel/accommodations or visa arrangements (for non-Japanese nationals).
