A research project undertaken by UNU and Waseda University has led to the recent publication of two edited books: Human Security and Natural Disasters, and Human Security and Japan’s Triple Disaster.
This event brings together the editors of the two books as well as a number of chapter contributors from the second volume, who have examined the political, social and economic consequences of the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident that struck Japan on 11 March 2011.

The event will feature brief presentations by the speakers and then open discussion between the panel and audience members. This will be followed by a reception with light food and drinks.
Please note that this event will be held in English only; no simultaneous interpretation will be provided.
The event is organized by UNU-IAS and the Waseda Institute of Global Governance.
These two books result from the project Human Security and Natural Disasters, jointly undertaken by the UNU Institute for Sustainability and Peace (UNU-ISP; now part of UNU-IAS) and Waseda University. This work has also served as the foundation for a new UNU-IAS project, the Fukushima Global Communication Programme, which applies the human security approach specifically to the nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant.
