On 18 December, UNU Library will host Kyosuke Inoue (Executive Producer, NHK), the author of the book “Satoumi Capitalism” (published by Kadokawa KK). Together with the commentator, Wataru Suzuki (Satoyama Initiative Coordinator, UNU-IAS), they will revisit the motivations behind Inoue’s journalistic expedition to the fishing communities of the Seto Sea. Looking at the interconnectedness of human and natural activity in this satoumi region ― a socio-ecological production seascape ― they will search for clues that can help fishing communities around the world tackle problems such as pollution and fish depletion. The event will be an opportunity to learn about conservation initiatives in Japan’s satoumi regions and to discuss new ways of coexistence between humans and the sea.
The event will be in Japanese only.
