This event will promote cooperation and dialogue between G20 members on resource efficiency and addressing marine plastic litter, following up on the G20 Osaka Summit held in June 2019. As part of the G20 Resource Efficiency Dialogue, it will discuss policy options and good practices for resource efficiency, considering the entire lifecycle of natural resources, products, and infrastructure. The event will also discuss the G20 Implementation Framework for Actions on Marine Plastic Litter, sharing information on measures by G20 members.
The event will be organised by UNU-IAS, the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan, and supported by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies.
The G20 Resource Efficiency Dialogue was established in 2017 under the G20 presidency of Germany, and in 2018 the second meeting was held with international organizations, private companies and academia under the presidency of Argentina. At the G20 Osaka Summit held in June 2019, members agreed to develop a roadmap for resource efficiency.
As for marine plastic litter, at the G20 Osaka Summit leaders agreed the “Osaka Blue Ocean Vision”, which aims to aim to reduce additional pollution by marine plastic litter to zero by 2050. To achieve this goal, the G20 Implementation Framework for Actions on Marine Plastic Litter was agreed at the Ministerial Meeting, for exchanging and updating information on measures in each country, and promoting mutual learning based on best practices.
Simultaneous interpretation (Japanese–English) will be provided.
The event programme is available on the MOEJ website (Japanese). Please note that only some parts of the programme are open to the public.
