In Japan, outside of urban centers such as Tokyo, LGBT issues are little discussed and can be difficult to grasp for unfamiliar audiences. At the heart of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a philosophy of ensuring that “no one is left behind”, of realizing a “just, equitable, tolerant, open and socially inclusive world in which the needs of the most vulnerable are met”. In order to achieve the SDGs, the voices of such vulnerable groups, including those of sexual minorities, must be heard and incorporated into societal processes.
This event, supported by UNU-IAS Operating Unit in Ishikawa/Kanazawa (OUIK), seeks to encourage debate and information sharing surrounding LGBT issues, not only in the context of education but also the private sector, civil society, and local government, with the aim of creating a local model for realizing the SDGs.
This event will take place in Japanese ONLY.
