UNU-IAS, Bunkyo University Faculty of International Studies, and the Global Environmental Outreach Center (GEOC) will organize a talk and poster exhibition to celebrate the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. This event is also being supported by the Japan Ecotourism Society.
In September 2015, UN Member States unanimously adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which consist of 17 Goals. In this connection, the United Nations has also declared 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. Tourism is considered to be the world’s largest industry, and it has a wide range of impacts on the sustainability of the natural environment, regional societies, employment, and poverty, among other effects.
With this event, experts and practitioners of ecotourism and volunteer tourism will be invited to discuss how to integrate sustainability practice into tourism. A poster exhibition by students from Bunkyo University will be held in conjunction with the event.
Please note that this event will be held in Japanese only and no interpretation will be provided.
