UNU-IAS will organize a seminar on Africa’s Industrial Competitiveness and Human Capital, with Dr. Jennifer Blanke, Vice President of the African Development Bank, as guest speaker.
This seminar is mainly intended for students and researchers interested in the proposed topic, but is also open to the public. Please note that the event will take place in English–no translation will be provided. For details, please refer to attached programme.
The seminar will be followed by a short coffee/tea reception, providing an opportunity for individual conversations with the guest lecturer.

Dr. Jennifer Blanke is Vice President of the African Development Bank Group, responsible for overseeing the Bank’s strategy and activities in the area of Agriculture, Human and Social Development. She was previously Chief Economist at the World Economic Forum (WEF), overseeing economic research activities and projects from 2012-2017. Other roles held at WEF included Lead Economist and Head of the Global Competitiveness and Benchmarking team, and Senior Programme Manager responsible for developing the business, management, and technology sections of the Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. She has written and lectured extensively on issues related to national competitiveness and economic development. Prior to joining the World Economic Forum, Dr. Blanke worked for a number of years as a management consultant for Eurogroup (Mazars Group) in Paris, France, where she specialized in banking and financial market organization. Dr. Blanke holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University, New York, and an MA and PhD in International Economics from the Graduate Institute of International Studies, Geneva. She is presently a member of the Canadian government’s Council of Economic Growth and holds a number of non-executive board responsibilities in the not-for-profit sector.
