This online side event of the 2021 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will explore the role of socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS) in achieving the SDGs. It will highlight the contributions of SEPLS — areas where sustainable production activities and resource management can result in societies in harmony with nature — to recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.

The event will share knowledge and experiences from the global network of the Satoyama Initiative and explore how they can be upscaled and mainstreamed into policy dialogue. Key lessons will be presented from the network’s programmes including Community Development & Knowledge Management for the Satoyama Initiative (COMDEKS), for institutionalising landscape and seascape approaches in national and sub-national policies. This will be critical to implementing key global agendas including the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

    Participation

This online event will be held on Friday, 9 July at 07:30–09:00 EDT (20:30–22:00 JST). Participation is open to the public, with advance registration required.
