UNU-IAS will co-organise a side event at the March 2022 meetings of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Geneva, Switzerland, focusing on the use of landscape approaches in implementing the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
This event will explore challenges and capacity needs to apply landscape approaches in the development and implementation of National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAPs). It will present an outline of the NBSAPs manual, a tool for policymakers developed by UNU-IAS and IGES with the support of the Secretariat of the CBD (SCBD), gathering opinions and suggestions to ensure the manual meets the needs of CBD Parties and other organisations. This event is organised in partnership with the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), UNDP, and the Government of Japan.
Landscape management and governance will play a key role in implementing the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) as well as other global agendas. However, UNU-IAS analysis of current NBSAPs reveals that integrated landscape and spatial planning approaches have not been widely incorporated into national policies. While developing the GBF, many CBD Parties and organisations have underlined the importance of developing capacities to integrate landscape perspectives into their NBSAPs.
This event will take place on-site at the Geneva meetings and online. To participate online please use the Zoom link. Registration in advance is not required.
This event will be conducted in English.
