    2016•08•26    13:00 - 15:00

On 26 August 2016, UNU-IAS will organise the international workshop Japan’s Contribution to Capacity Building of Agricultural Researchers in Africa — Achievements of OJCB Programme in Africa and Best Practice in MMUST in Nairobi, Kenya. Jointly organized with Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF), this will be an official side event of the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) Summit.

The event will present the UNU-IAS On-the-Job Research Capacity Building Programme for Food Security and Environmental Conservation in Developing Countries (OJCB), which is funded by MAFF, as an example of Japan’s contribution to building the capacity of agricultural researchers in Africa. It will introduce an OJCB project implemented by MMUST, take stock of the programme’s achievements in Africa, and discuss the future direction for capacity building in this area.

OJCB is a UNU-IAS initiative that supports capacity building through on-the-job training for young researchers, proposed and implemented by leading scientists in developing countries. The initiative aims to increase agricultural productivity through innovation, strengthen research capacity and build networks for cooperation between researchers, and ultimately contribute towards ensuring food security and environmental conservation in developing countries.

This event will be held in English.

This event is free and open to the public, but advanced registration is required (by 17:00 on 23 August 2016). Please click on the REGISTER button above to access the online registration page.
