UNU-IAS will organize the symposium Dialogue with African Universities on Capacity Building for Africa’s Sustainable Development with support from the African Development Bank. (Our project on Education for Sustainable Development in Africa will host the event.)

Prominent guest speakers from Africa and Asia’s higher education sector will discuss the role of universities in Africa’s sustainable development over the course of three panel sessions: 1) The Role of Universities in Africa’s Sustainable Development, 2) Training of Youth Entrepreneurs for Africa’s Sustainable Development, and 3) Young Researchers’ Initiative for Africa’s Sustainable Development. The symposium aims to provide a public forum for discussion between various stakeholders who share a vision for Africa’s sustainable development through higher education, and to promote Africa-Asia knowledge exchange by strengthening broadly based socio-economic and cultural relations between the two regions.

The three panel sessions will consist of short presentations from African and Japanese university vice chancellors and faculties, as well as government and industry representatives. Please see the attached programme for further details. Each panel session will be followed by a Q&A, which will be open to all present.

English and Japanese simultaneous interpretation will be provided.

Participants are invited to join a cocktail reception party after the symposium (17:30–19:00).
