On 19 November 2016, UNU-IAS will support the organization of the Global Interactive Forum on Traffic and Safety (GIFTS), a decade-long programme hosted by the International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences (IATSS).
During this period, traffic conditions around the world have changed dramatically. In order to design the next-generation mobility society while facing major environmental changes related to traffic and safety, it is necessary to act in a way that considers a broad perspective on global needs and values, encompassing adjacent themes such as the environment, natural disasters, energy and welfare.
Based on this point of view, IATSS has decided to host an annual public symposium. This year’s second GIFTS 2016 takes a broad look at traffic culture, taking into account the backgrounds and purposes of traffic policies in each country and region as well as regional characteristics such as views on the priority of proposed measures. Participants will share ideas and methodologies on reducing the number of traffic accident victims amidst diversified values, and discuss effective policies to achieve and accident-free society (Vision Zero).
There will be simultaneous English–Japanese interpretation.
For more information and the event programme, please see the event announcement on the IATSS website.
