UNU-IAS and the Ministry of the Environment of Japan will organize the symposium Local Learning for a Sustainable Future: Looking Ahead of the Decade of ESD and Messages from Okayama on 17 October 2014.
Organized in advance of the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to be held in Nagoya in November this year, this symposium will explore the role of partnerships in building sustainable communities in Japan. It aims to discuss how ESD could contribute to the process and activities related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will be launched next year.
This symposium will feature talks by five experts and an interactive panel discussion. The experts’ talks will explore the linkage between local ESD activities and international initiatives such as SDGs. Through discussion, the symposium will identify challenges for each stakeholder and discuss how to further promote initiatives and partnerships among stakeholders with a focus on local ESD activities. The outcomes of the symposium will be disseminated on the occasion of the World Conference on ESD as a message from Okayama.
Please note that this symposium will be conducted in Japanese only; no English interpretation will be provided.
