Following the advice regarding the spread and containment of Coronavirus, we have decided to cancel the symposium “Restoring Kinship with Nature through Japanese Gardens”. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

This event will introduce the UNU-IAS publication Restoring Kinship with Nature through Japanese Garden -the Challenge to Achieve a Sustainable Commons in Kanazawa, the 5th book in the Biocultural Diversity Series produced by the UNU-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa/Kanazawa (OUIK).

The book covers properties of Japanese Gardens in Kanazawa city – and how they shape and are shaped by the society around them. In this symposium, together with the authors of the book and other related researchers, we are going to uncover the hidden charms of Kanazawa’s gardens from the perspective of history, environment and design, and to think of new ways to enjoy gardens and reflect on what we can do to pass them on to future generations.

Please note that this event will be held in Japanese only, and no interpretation will be provided. For programme details and event registration, please visit the event website in Japanese.
