On 15 December 2016, UNU-IAS, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ), the Global Environment Outreach Centre (GEOC), and Sustainable Development Solutions Network Japan (SDSN Japan) will jointly hold the Symposium on Achieving Sustainable Local Communities through Partnerships with the Private Sector and Local Governments: Best Practices for the SDGs.
This symposium aims to share best practices in achieving sustainable local communities, and will encourage discussion on the kinds of partnerships that can be developed between the private sector and local governments. In addition, the symposium will address the application of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in local communities.
With regard to the SDGs, various locally-led initiatives are key to resolving the specific challenges of a particular community, and regional communities themselves play a crucial role as implementing organizations. At the same time, the SDGs are regarded as tools to guide local communities in realizing sustainability.
Please note that this event will be held in Japanese only and no interpretation will be provided.
