UNU-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa Kanazawa (OUIK), in partnership with the Rural Development Administration of the Republic of Korea (RDA) will be hosting a symposium, Conservation and Value Spread of Agricultural Heritage in the New Normal Era, on 5 November 2021 at 14:00-17:00 JST.
UNU-IAS OUIK and the RDA are collaborating on a research project, “Introduction of Technologies on Characteristic Analysis and Conservation Management in Agricultural Heritage Systems.” The aim of the project is to develop indicators and guidelines for monitoring the sustainability of the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) in Japan and Korea.
To that end, UNU-IAS OUIK and RDA have developed draft indicators for GIAHS monitoring and held workshops with GIAHS stakeholders in both countries for consultation around feasibility, foreseeable challenges, and potential solutions.
This upcoming event builds on these efforts to 1) discuss ways to sustainably preserve agricultural heritage and spread its value during times of change under the COVID-19 pandemic; and 2) share best practices to date and potential directions for the conservation and management of GIAHS.
