UNU-IAS will support the organization of the latest Global Interactive Forum on Traffic and Safety (GIFTS), a decade-long programme hosted by the International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences (IATSS).
In order to design a next-generation mobility society while facing major environmental changes related to traffic and safety, it is necessary to act in a way that considers global needs and values from a broad perspective, encompassing adjacent themes such as the environment, natural disasters, energy, and welfare. This symposium will offer an opportunity to discuss activities aimed at realizing an ideal mobility society with leading experts who will introduce practical initiatives underway in their respective regions, and explain the influence of their specific cultural contexts.
This year’s GIFTS is the third such meeting and takes as its theme “Public Space in Traffic Culture.” Experts in traffic planning and urban design have been invited, and along with introducing specific practical examples, authorities from IATSS, external experts, and working-level actors will participate and debate the role played by public space in cities in the functional improvement of traffic.
For more information including the event programme and details on registration, please see the event announcement on the IATSS website.
