UNU-IAS, in collaboration with JICA, the Integrated Research System for Sustainability Science (IR3S) at the University of Tokyo, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), and the Sustainability Science Consortium (SSC), will co-organise an international symposium to introduce the outcomes of a new policy research project, Development Strategy for Urban Sustainability in Africa on the Basis of SDGs Interlinkage Analysis (USiA). With funding from JICA, the project was launched to propose innovative solutions for implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) in sub-Saharan Africa.
The objectives of the symposium are to share research findings, prioritized solutions, and key tradeoffs as well as to identify synergies with other SDGs, from the three target countries (Ghana, Malawi, and South Africa). As an early “side event” of TICAD VII, which will take place in Yokohama this August, this symposium will build a platform for all participants, including private-sector actors and youth, to exchange and share their experiences and ideas towards achieving the SDGs in Africa.
※The event will be held in ENGLISH only. No interpretation will be provided.
