UNU-IAS will contribute to the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) to be held at the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, Thailand on 28–30 March 2018. As a regional preparatory event for the global High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) to be held in New York in July, APFSD is an important opportunity to discuss progress towards this year’s theme of “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies in Asia and the Pacific.”
On 29 March, UNU-IAS Director Kazuhiko Takemoto will moderate Session 7: Partnerships for Implementation of the SDGs. Shortly after the session, UNU-IAS and ESCAP will hold an event from 17:15 to 18:15 to launch newly published Partnering for Sustainable Development: Guidelines for Multi-stakeholder Partnerships to Implement the 2030 Agenda in Asia and the Pacific.
The guidelines were jointly produced by UNU-IAS and ESCAP to facilitate achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific through support of Member States in the region in the development of partnerships with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals. The guidelines aim to: i) help improve existing partnership processes and prepare better ones in the future; ii) provide practical and step-by-step guidance to address opportunities and challenges for partnerships; iii) promote inclusiveness; and iv) support capacity building for developing, implementing, and sustaining multi-stakeholder partnerships.
The launch event will highlight messages from the guidelines, and it will invite experts and practitioners to share their experiences in partnering and how this tool can help them in supporting the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.
All those attending APFSD are welcome to attend the launch event, which will include a cocktail reception. No special registration is required. Please refer to the ESCAP website for details about APFSD registration.
