The Urban Biosphere Initiative (URBIS) launched a monthly webinar series to be held on the first Thursday of every month.

The webinar series aims to increase practitioners’ capacity and knowledge on how to better integrate urban development with biodiversity conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources.

UNU-IAS Senior Research Fellow Dr. Jose Puppim de Oliveira will lead the second webinar “How to create and support city and regional policy for effective nature-based solutions to urban sustainability, resilience and livability” to be held on 4 June 2015.

    Background

URBIS is a global alliance of partners aspiring to reconcile urban development with the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources – a quest to engender cities with greater socio-ecological resilience in the context of global environmental change. The Cities Biodiversity Center of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability hosts the URBIS secretariat, in partnership with the Stockholm Resilience Centre and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, among others. At the tenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity held in 2010 in Nagoya, Japan, a number of partners formalized their support for URBIS, including the United Nations University.
