Biodiversity Targets Reviewed and Future Directions Planned in Online Reporting Session

26 March 2020, UNU-IAS, the Japan committee for International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN-J), the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) and The Global Environment Outreach Centre (GEOC) co-organized an online reporting session on the results of second meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (OEWG2) that was held in Rome from 24-29 February 2020. The session aimed at sharing the outcome reported by the attendees of the OEWG2 and discussing targets and future directions in relation to biodiversity both domestically and internationally. The session was attended by more than 70 participants.

In the opening remarks, Tsunao Watanabe (Senior Programme Coordinator, UNU-IAS) welcomed participants and outlined the objectives of this online session as exchanging insights among participants, with reference to the discussions made at the OEWG2, where the starting points for setting up goals for the post-2020 biodiversity framework.
