On 15 February 2022 UNU-IAS organised a meeting engaging young people in Japan to discuss collaboration and networking for education for sustainable development (ESD). Under the topic “My action, Our actions”, the event included presentations on youth activities and group discussion.
Youth members from eight Regional Centres of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCEs) located in Japan showcased their activities through an interactive presentation session. These successful youth-led and youth-initiated collaborations were with stakeholders including student organisations, community members, local governments, and private institutions. Additionally, the presentations exhibited youth efforts utilising creative and innovative virtual tools, as well as how to bring back safe in-person events.
Group discussions centred on the common social issues tackled in these activities and the mutual challenges faced, which provided a space for learning opportunities and networking for possible future collaboration. A working-level group explored future collaboration within and beyond the Japanese RCE community.
The meeting highlighted the continuing youth efforts in each participant’s community in Japan, and further highlighted the importance of ESD and the RCE community.
The Global RCE Network is an initiative of the UNU-IAS Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Project. Further information can be found on the Global RCE Network website here.
