Video Promotes Urban Gardens as Shared Spaces for Social Impact

A new UNU-IAS video illustrates how urban gardens can function as inclusive spaces for social and environmental impact.

Focusing on volunteer cleanup activities in the historical gardens of Kanazawa City, Japan, the video explores the benefits of urban nature such as enhanced well-being, community building, and the preservation of cultural heritage.

“Gardens Bringing People Together” is the third video in a series highlighting the role of urban nature in preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable development. The series was developed as part of the Sustainable Urban Nature project implemented by the UNU-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa/Kanazawa (OUIK) to raise awareness of the multiple benefits of urban gardens, such as biocultural diversity conservation and climate change mitigation.

The video is available on the UNU-IAS YouTube channel.
