This December, a group of researchers from UNU-IAS visited India for consultation and training workshops as part of its Water and Urban Initiative (WUI). From 6-8 December, workshops were co-organized in Chennai in cooperation with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). From 11-14 December, the workshops were co-organized in Lucknow, with the University of Lucknow. Chennai and Lucknow are two of the eight cities targeted for WUI case studies.

The WUI team shared key findings of their research on flood risk and damage, water quality, and water-borne health risks as well as policy recommendations based on simulation results. Two-day hands-on training workshops followed, covering the use of the Flo-2D flood management and damage assessment model, and the Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) water quality model.

The workshops wrapped up by giving participants an introduction to the software which will be available for their later use in the development of management strategies for flooding and wastewater.
