UNU-IAS has released a new series of working papers under its research project Rice Terrace Systems in Rural Asia. The project aims to address the dual challenges of excessive runoff and water scarcity caused by climate change, providing ecosystem based adaptation measures to strengthen the resilience of the Hani Rice Terraces in China and the Ifugao Rice Terraces in the Philippines.
The working paper series consists of six papers that look at the Hani and Ifugao rice terrace systems in order to examine and discuss water security and management in the face of climate change and land use change. The papers present findings on the state of traditional rice terrace farming confronting current threats, effects of changing precipitation patterns, surface and groundwater flows, governance mechanisms, and the feasibility of implementing REDD+ policies. All six are now available in UNU Collections.
