On 9 and 10 February, UNU-IAS, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and the Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency jointly organized an environmental workshop and presentation contest for Japanese high school students. The event aimed to support and advance youth activities that contribute to creating a sustainable society.
On the first day, presentations introduced activities conducted at UNU-IAS and for realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through a workshop, the students discussed how to integrate the SDGs into their activities. On the second day, sixteen selected high schools presented their environmental activities. The UNU-IAS Director Award was presented to Higashi-Chikushi Gakuen High School (Fukuoka Prefecture) Science Club for their research activities on Hirotani Wetlands and their efforts to designate the site under the Ramsar Convention.
