    Biographical Statement

    Bruno Leles is a Partnerships Associate with the UNU-IAS Biodiversity and Society Program. Before joining UNU-IAS, Mr Leles worked for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) where he coordinated the Global Partnership on Aichi Biodiversity Target 11 in Eastern Europe and Central Asia and the Biodiversity Task Force of South-East Europe. Prior to IUCN, he supported the development of the Sixth National Report from Brazil to the Convention on Biological Diversity as a Technical Adviser with the United Nations Development Programme and promoted synergies between Socio-ecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes and national commitments for protected areas from the Group of Like-minded Megadiverse Countries.  Mr Leles has experience in project management, international negotiations on environmental policy, regional environmental governance in post-conflict areas, transboundary management of protected areas and OECMS, and promotion of peace and biodiversity conservation.

    Mr Leles holds a BSc in Biology and a Master’s in Population Genetics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and a Doctorate in Ecology and Biodiversity from Sao Paulo State University (UNESP) in Brazil. His research interests include environmental governance, biodiversity policy, landscape approaches to conservation and sustainable use, and peace and biodiversity.
